ABOUT

CARMEN

I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist for over 15 years and have gained valuable experience in working with individuals, couples and families from diverse cultural groups at private organisations, non-profit organisations and state-run organisations. I have also facilitated numerous therapeutic group programmes as well as psychoeducation groups.

I have extensive experience in anger management, substance use, personality dysfunctions, parenting skills, identity work, sexual dysfunctions, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, behavioural problems, compulsive criminality, living with HIV/AIDS, conflict resolution skills and relationship difficulties. My experience also includes forensic and criminal risk assessments. My work with couples and families have included looking at effective and ineffective relationship patterns, communication skills and coping with lifesyle adjustments.

In therapy I work from an intergrative, holistic approach whereby treatment is tailored according to my clients needs and circumstances. Therapeutic interventions are mostly informed by psychodynamic, narrative and cognitive-behavioural techniques. I strive to help clients implement change effectively and to reach their potential and resolve current emotional and behavioural difficulties which may be serving as obstacles to healthy living. Psychotherapy can facilitate personal growth, healing and self-awareness. By developing insight into oneself and one’s interpersonal relationships one can experience new ways of being and interacting.
