Dr. Marguerite
Theron

Counselling psychologist

I am a Counselling Psychologist with nearly three decades of experience supporting individuals, children, families, and couples across a wide range of contexts. With 29 years of practice behind me, I’ve come to deeply value a client-centred approach — one that begins with listening closely, understanding the person or family's unique needs, and then tailoring the therapeutic process accordingly. Whether I’m working with a family and a toddler, a school-aged child, or an adult navigating personal challenges, I aim to meet clients where they are.

My foundational training was in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Systems Theory. Over the years, I’ve expanded my toolkit to include a wide range of modalities:
– Parent-child work (including therapeutic work with children under 5, with the parent present)
– Play and art therapy for primary school-aged children
– Ego state therapy and Transactional Analysis
– Narrative therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, and work grounded in Organisational Behaviour for adults

Currently, I am furthering my training in BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT), a new approach to trauma work and Imago Relationship Therapy for couples — which bring exciting new possibilities for my work with partnerships.

Throughout my career, my greatest teachers have been my clients. They continue to humble me, challenge me, and remind me of the power of authentic connection. I value honest feedback in the therapy room and always welcome reflections on what feels helpful (or not) — this allows us to shape the process together.

Outside of work, I find joy in nurturing meaningful relationships with my young adult children, enjoying nature and animals, reading, walking, exploring cooking classes, traveling, and tending to my plants (with varying degrees of success!).

Professionally, nothing brings me more fulfillment than witnessing another person’s growth, healing, and return to joy. It is a privilege to be part of that journey.

You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. C.S. Lewis
