Christo van der Bank Holds a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Stellenbosch University and is registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Prior to pursuing his career in Clinical Psychology, Christo completed his undergraduate degree in Law and an LLB. Working with and assisting people in times of need ignites a passion in him, and he firmly believes each individual is unique with unique circumstances which shape them.
“Approaching a psychologist may be difficult for some people, and I understand and appreciate the vulnerability some may feel when reaching out. I recognize what a privilege it is to share and witness the intimate and meaningful journey which therapy provides for my patients. It is because of this that I hold at my core a few principles which I bring to a therapeutic space. This first being without judgment – Each person experiences events in their lives in their own way, and I do not believe in imposing my own beliefs on others. I believe the therapist and patient are fellow travellers on a journey together where both parties contribute to the therapeutic process. The second principle of integrity – I conduct myself in an honest and transparent manner to ensure that I remain professional and ethical in all that I undertake to do. The third principle of being holistic – I believe each patient’s individuality requires a tailor-made intervention that speaks to that person’s need. Thus I do not adopt a one-size-fits-all methodology. It is by combining these principles that I aim to provide a space where patients are able to better understand themselves and process that which is necessary. I am a warm, sensitive, open-minded, and hard-working therapist dedicated to my patients who are invested in the process.”
Christo’s primary training was received from Stellenbosch University in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). He has also furthered his training in trauma-focused modalities which is currently his primary interest.
